Columbia Brunch Picks From the Savor Staff

Nov 13, 2020

We never want to live in a world without brunch. Period.

Brunch is genius. It combines relaxation (usually a late morning breakfast...hence ‘brunch’) with a little day drinking, if you're up to it. What could be better? In fact, we would argue the beauty of brunch is its timing. Brunch signals it’s the weekend and we’re all free. Local restaurants featuring a brunch menu have become a topic of conversation at the Savor office. Do you prefer a hearty brunch running the full gamut of breakfast foods, or something light and fresh? Either way, local restaurants in Columbia have you covered. Check out what our staff had to say about their favorite brunch meals in town.

Best Brunch Meals in Columbia, MO, According to Our Team

Who: Rusty Brett

What: Compost Pile

Why: Are you serious? What’s not to love? Dude. The Compost Pile from Cafe Berlin is the perfect brunch plate. You get biscuits topped with grilled veggies, jack cheese and a ton of meat. I take it to the next level and add gravy because, well...why not?

Who: Sarah Carnes

What: Triple Berry Pancakes (with Rosé!)

Where: Sophia’s

Why: Saturday might be for the boys, but Sunday is for the girls. When it comes to Sunday brunch, most people fall into one of two categories: sweet or savory. I crave brunch at Sophia’s because I have a serious sweet tooth. The hard decision for me is whether or not I want their Banana Pecan French Toast or their Triple Berry Pancakes. I'm a pancake lover at heart, but it can be hard to pass up the French toast. I have a lot of friends who are savory-minded foodies and Sophia’s offers the best of both worlds. I get my sweet fix and they get endless savory options. And if you’re not into rosé, they always have mimosas.

Who: Kyla Phillips

What: Biscuits and Gravy with a Bloody Mary

Why: It’s all about the experience! Starting off a Saturday morning with a long bike ride along the Katy trail can only be improved by following it with biscuits and gravy so good you’d think they’d come straight from your gramma’s kitchen! The charm of Meriwether really steals the show, though. On a cool fall day my husband and I love sitting on the patio and munching on the locally sourced delicious eats. I love to spice it up with a bloody mary because YUM! Best way to re-energize for the bike ride home.

Who: Kelsey Blackman

What: Corned Beef Hash with a Spicy Bloody Mary

Why: Why? Because it’s freakin’ tasty, that’s why! Broadway Brewery’s house-cured corned beef hash is deliciously salty. Plus, it comes with sourdough and yes, I’m a millennial and like sourdough — shocker. Last, but not least, the pièce de résistance, the hash. THE HASH, MAN. It’s so good. Crispy potatoes and two eggs your way, I prefer over easy. If I’m pulling out all the stops, I love to get a spicy bloody mary to drink, and at Broadway Brewery, you get to pick your toppings. It rules.

Who: Natalie MacIntosh

What: Anonymous Tacos

Why: Another honorable mention for Cafe Berlin… and rightfully so! There’s really just no way I couldn’t pay my respects to the Anonymous Tacos, given that they’ve been my go-to brunch choice for years. Tacos, for one thing, are my love language — no matter what meal of the day it is. What really gets me every time are the flavors in the fresh veggies, salsa and cilantro in this dish. If they haven’t already bottled and sold their salsa, they need to! I’d have it on hand at all times.
